Julie Allen

Julie Allen has given many years of her life to Catholic Education and was a member of ASREAP for many of her years as a school leader.  Julie served on the Executive of the ASREAP Queensland for eleven years including three years as President (2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09). During this time, Julie worked tirelessly for the good of the Association, bringing great energy and insight to her role.
During her career, Julie taught in a number of schools throughout Queensland, and took up the position of Assistant Principal – Mission at Mt Alvernia College for ten years and Assistant Principal – Faith and Mission at Lourdes Hill College for four years.  Julie retired at the end of 2011.
Across her career Julie has been a passionate, committed and inspiring teacher and leader of Religious Education.  Julie has epitomised collegiality in her willingness to nurture young teachers, foster networks and share her wisdom.  She has left an indelible mark on the lives of many people.

Graeme Barry

Graeme Barry has had an extensive career in religious education consultancy with schools in New Zealand and in the Archdiocese of Brisbane.  Prior to his retirement in 2009, Graeme worked at the Brisbane Catholic Education Centre as Education Officer – Religious Education.  In that role, Graeme developed and implemented a range of policies and programs relevant to religious education including the Syllabus for Religious Education for Catholic Schools and the Guidelines for the Religious Life of the School.  Throughout his time at Brisbane Catholic Education, Graeme was an active and supportive member of ASREAP.

Dan Cooper 

Dan Cooper has contributed twenty-four years of service to Religious Education in Catholic schools in Queensland. Dan was APRE at Clairvaux MacKillop College from 1986-1991, Chisholm College from 1992-2003 and St Francis College from 2008-2013. During this time, Dan has also promoted the profession in his role on the ASREAP Committee and as ASREAP President.

Jim Hanley 
Jim Hanley has been involved in ASREAP since about 1996 when he was APRE at Emmaus College in Rockhampton. He continued his involvement while APRE at St Ursula’s Yeppoon and as the RE Consultant, Secondary Colleges at DCEO. Jim served as an ASREAP Committee member for a number of years. He has been committed to the important role that ASREAP and its annual conference plays in the development of those in the role of APRE both personally and professionally and he is known by many within the Association. Jim has delivered workshops at the annual conference. Jim announced his retirement at the end of 2014 to spend time with family and to travel.

Keith McCourt 

Keith McCourt is a recognised leader of Religious Education who has had a long involvement with ASREAP and (its predecessor) ASREC. Keith commenced teaching at Nudgee College in 1981, was REC and APRE at St Columban’s College, Albion from 1983-1986 and RE consultant at Brisbane Catholic Education from 1987-1992. During his time at BCE, Keith had responsibility for the development of retreat programs within Diocesan schools. Keith returned to the classroom in 1993 at Clairvaux MacKillop College before taking up the role of APRE at St John Fisher College in 1994. From 2001-2010, Keith was APRE at Southern Cross Catholic College. While Keith currently works for the Australian Catholic University, his retirement from secondary teaching at the end of 2010 brought to an end his long association with ASREAP, a period of twenty five years. While Keith never held a role on the ASREAP Executive, he advocated a shared leadership model for the Association. More broadly, Keith has been involved in AARE (1981-1988), panellist for SOR with the Board of Senior Secondary School Studies and Chair of sub-committees for Religion and Ethics and Regional Panel Chair.

Kath Neehouse 

 

Kath Neehouse taught Religious Education for thirty-eight years at Villanova College (1979 -2016). From 1985, Kath fulfilled a number of leadership roles including honorary Assistant RE Coordinator, Years 8-10 (1985-1993); Assistant Principal Religious Education (1994-2000); Vice Rector Mission (2001-2010); Director of Religious Education, Years 5 -12 (2001-2014); and Senior School Religious Education Curriculum Area Leader (2015-2016). Kath has been a member of ASREAP for twenty-two years (1994-2016). During this time, Kath has attended every Conference except one and was Secretary for 2-3 years in the mid-1990s. Kath has been a supporter of the implementation of Study of Religion as a Board Course/Authority Subject in Queensland schools since 1994. She has provided support and mentoring to APREs in schools that were considering including Study of Religion in their curriculum offerings. Kath has generously shared approaches and resources developed over many years at Villanova. Kath served on the Study of Religion subcommittee of the Religious and Ethical Studies Subject Advisory Committee of the Board of Senior Secondary Schools Queensland (1997-2001); as a member of the Brisbane Central District Review Panel for Study of Religion (2001-2016); and as Acting Panel Chair for the Brisbane Central review Panel for Study of Religion Panel (2007). From 1999-2005, Kath was appointed by the Augustinian Provincial Council to the Council of Villanova College (later the Board of Villanova Incorporated). From 2009-2010, she was appointed to the Education Commission of the Province of Australasia of the Order of St Augustine.

Karyn O’Reilly 

Karyn O’Reilly has given over fifty years of her life to Catholic Education and was a member of ASREAP for many of her years as an Assistant Principal – Religious Education.  Karyn was one of the instigators of the ASREAP Queensland and served the Association as Treasurer and Committee Member. 
During her long career, Karyn taught in a number of schools throughout Queensland, including St Patrick’s and St Margaret Mary’s Colleges in Townsville;    Abergowrie Agricultural College; Brigidine College, Indooroopilly, Brisbane;  APRE at San Sisto College Carina for fifteen years; Mt St Michael’s College, Ashgrove, Brisbane.
Across her career Karyn has been an exemplary teacher and Assistant Principal – Religious Education. Karyn epitomises the call to the vocation of teaching.  She is a highly principled woman, leader, educator and role model whose prayerful humility, steady serenity and unwavering commitment are great gifts to Catholic education.
